Special Educational Needs and Disability

At Milton Park Primary School we recognise that pupils have individual needs. Some pupils require more support than others. If these pupils are to achieve their full potential, we must recognise this and plan accordingly.

We acknowledge that a significant proportion of pupils will have special educational needs at some time in their school career. Some of these pupils may require additional support throughout their time in school, whilst others may need specific intervention for a brief period to help overcome more short term needs.

If there is something not on here you would like included or there is something you feel could be improved, please contact Mrs Adams.

Our Special Educational Needs and Disabilities Coordinator

Mrs Adams is our Special Educational Needs and Disabilities Coordinator. She is a teaching member of staff Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday in The Den and she is out of class Thursday morning for her SENDCo role and to meet with parents/carers and other professionals.

Miss Gooding can be contacted on the school telephone number (01934) 624868, through the school mobile 07720698566 or by email senco@miltonpark.extendlearning.org

Alternatively, you can speak to Mrs Backler, who is overseeing EYFS/KS1 SEND or Mrs Pettifor , who is overseeing KS2 SEND for any support or enquiries. They can they offer support or seek further advice from our SENDCo Mrs Adams if needed.

Parent Coffee  Mornings

The Den leader is Samantha Adams who is also a qualified SENDCo and worked with and supported pupils with  Autism across the school. Milton Park Den is a 10-place resource base hub for children with Autism Spectrum Disorder and associated difficulties and supports the needs of children from EYFS to year 4. During their time in the Hub opportunities will be built where appropriate to work alongside their mainstream class during lesson time and playtime. Provision in the Den will be small group, direct individual teaching bespoke to the child’s needs.

The full offer for each will be reviewed and bespoke packages with individual timetables and plans adapted to their needs will be created to ensure it continues to provide appropriate levels of challenge and support. All staff will receive additional training on supporting pupils with Autism Spectrum Disorder in order to ensure consistency across the school. We are also part of the Autism and Wellbeing in School  Development Programme run by the Anna Freud National Centre for Children and Families.

Children who attend the Den will all have and EHCP (Educational Health Care Plan) and places into the resource base are allocated through liaison with the Local Authority and Outside Agencies. There is a detailed admission criteria for entry into the base which all stakeholders look at in order to allocate places accordingly which is done through the Local Authority.  The main aim of The Den’s provision is to equip the children with the skills and strategies to access the mainstream environment with the goal of reintegrating the children into their local mainstream school.
