Please find below details of how our Governing body is structured, including the names, categories, responsibilities and terms of appointment for each Governor.
The Governing Body warmly welcomes you to Milton Park Primary School.
The school governors are a team of dedicated volunteers who work with the Headteacher and staff to ensure high standards of education and care.
This is achieved by:
• Setting suitable aims and objectives.
• Agreeing policies, curriculum, targets and priorities.
• Monitoring and reviewing the school's achievements and progress.
What do the School Governors do?
School governors oversee important decisions, such as staffing and school finances. The Governing Body is made up of parents, staff, past and present members of the Local Authority and people from the local community.
On the 1st October 2017 Milton Park Primary converted to academy status and formally became part of the Extend Learning Academies Network (ELAN). Each school within ELAN has a Local Governing Body (LGB). The LGB of Milton Park Primary School aims to support the whole community of the school using their varying skills, strengths and expertise from all walks of life to enrich the work of the governing body and improve the governance of the school.
The LGB of Milton Park Primary undertake the responsibilities delegated to them by the Board of Trustees. These include aspects such as maintaining an overview of the standards and performance achieved in the school, securing a local interest in the school's strategic development and providing support and challenge for the Headteacher.
In all decision making, the governors are committed to ensuring that the best interests of all children in the school are the highest priority.

Becoming a Governor is something that I have thought about for a while. Having been a Cub Scout Leader for 16 years, I enjoyed giving back to young people and seeing their excitement in achieving new skills and having different experiences. Through my work in schools for my day job, I have seen the impact of a supportive and knowledgeable governing body. I have spent almost 16 years working in education; initially in recruitment then moving into training, compliance, safeguarding and training - staff, students and parent/carer workshops. As a licensed Team Tech tutor, working across the South West, undertaking school improvement and development projects in primary, secondary and alternative provision, I hope that Milton Park can benefit from the knowledge and experience I have in my day job.
From an early age, I have played hockey, enjoyed crafts and watching sports - my husband is hopeful that our children will pick one of our sports each as he loves playing basketball! Outside of family, work and sports, I can be found supporting local charities. My business has supported Broad Community Trust for the last 7 years and I feel very strongly about giving back. I see being a governor in the same light and look forward to supporting Milton Park in giving each of its pupils the best education experience possible.
JJ is the Pupil Premium link governor and was appointed as a Co-Opted governor in September 2021. He holds an undergraduate degree in Primary Education and a Master's degree in Education and Social Justice. He is currently a Senior Delivery Officer at the Department for Education, working with academies across the South West. He lives locally in Haywood Village with his wife and son.
As link governor for pupil premium JJ supports and challenges the school to develop strategies for improving outcomes for disadvantaged pupils, and ensures the school uses its pupil premium funding effectively.
Board Appointed Governor
|I have been a governor at Milton Park Primary School since 2016 and I have two children who are in Year 7 and Year 4. I am the safeguarding governor and am always impressed with how effective the school is in making sure our children are safe and well looked after. Away from school, I have spent 20 years working in the media as a journalist and in the charity sector in a media and communications role. For the past few years, I have also been training in counselling and now work with young people and adults across North Somerset as a counsellor.|
SEN lead & Equality and Diversity lead
I am a newly appointed governor in 2019. I have worked in education for 19 years in various roles. I have a child who is in Year 1 at Milton Park.

I am a newly appointed staff governor in 2020. I have worked in education for 14 years in a variety of different roles, such as: one to one support, teacher assistant, higher level teaching assistant and primary school teacher. This is my sixth year at Milton Park Primary School and my eighth year as a teacher. I started as a Newly Qualified Teacher in September 2014 and took sabbatical leave to work in the UAE (United Arab Emirates) for two years. I have worked in years 3, 4 and 5 during my time here and now year 3/4. When I am not at school I enjoy reading and taking my dog for a walk.
