The Governing Body warmly welcomes you to Milton Park Primary School.

What is a School Governor?

The school governors are a team of dedicated volunteers who work with the Headteacher and staff to ensure high standards of education and care.

This is achieved by:

• Setting suitable aims and objectives.
• Agreeing policies, curriculum, targets and priorities.
• Monitoring and reviewing the school's achievements and progress.

What do the School Governors do?
School governors oversee important decisions, such as staffing and school finances. The Governing Body is made up of parents, staff, past and present members of the Local Authority and people from the local community.

On the 1st October 2017 Milton Park Primary converted to academy status and formally became part of the Extend Learning Academies Network (ELAN). Each school within ELAN has a Local Governing Body (LGB). The LGB of Milton Park Primary School aims to support the whole community of the school using their varying skills, strengths and expertise from all walks of life to enrich the work of the governing body and improve the governance of the school.

The LGB of Milton Park Primary undertake the responsibilities delegated to them by the Board of Trustees. These include aspects such as maintaining an overview of the standards and performance achieved in the school, securing a local interest in the school's strategic development and providing support and challenge for the Headteacher.

In all decision making, the governors are committed to ensuring that the best interests of all children in the school are the highest priority.

Russell Mogg

Chair of Governors

Board appointed Governor

Health and Safety lead

Being a school governor enables me to contribute and give back to the school community that has given my three children so much. My youngest son left Milton Park last year after 7 years of learning and enjoyment to go to secondary school. Both my daughter, who is at college, and my eldest son ,who is at university, also went to Milton Park. I have been a governor since 2013 and Chair of governors since September 2018. I try to use the skills and experience I have gained in my own career, as a Technical Trainer and Health & Safety trainer in the materials handling industry, to assist me in my role as governor helping Milton Park and ELAN Academy Trust to continue to provide the best environment and opportunities for pupils to achieve their absolute best and enjoy the years they are at our school.

Sarah Morrison

Vice chair

Co-opted Governor

EYFS, PE lead & Catch up funding

Becoming a Governor is something that I have thought about for a while. Having been a Cub Scout Leader for 16 years, I enjoyed giving back to young people and seeing their excitement in achieving new skills and having different experiences. Through my work in schools for my day job, I have seen the impact of a supportive and knowledgeable governing body. I have spent almost 16 years working in education; initially in recruitment then moving into training, compliance, safeguarding and training - staff, students and parent/carer workshops. As a licensed Team Tech tutor, working across the South West, undertaking school improvement and development projects in primary, secondary and alternative provision, I hope that Milton Park can benefit from the knowledge and experience I have in my day job.

From an early age, I have played hockey, enjoyed crafts and watching sports - my husband is hopeful that our children will pick one of our sports each as he loves playing basketball! Outside of family, work and sports, I can be found supporting local charities. My business has supported Broad Community Trust for the last 7 years and I feel very strongly about giving back. I see being a governor in the same light and look forward to supporting Milton Park in giving each of its pupils the best education experience possible.

Claire Kingsbury-Bell

Board Appointed Governor

Safeguarding lead

Wellbeing lead

I have been a governor at Milton Park Primary School since 2016 and I have two children who are in Year 7 and Year 4. I am the safeguarding governor and am always impressed with how effective the school is in making sure our children are safe and well looked after. Away from school, I have spent 20 years working in the media as a journalist and in the charity sector in a media and communications role. For the past few years, I have also been training in counselling and now work with young people and adults across North Somerset as a counsellor.

David Hall

Co-opted Governor

Phase 3 (Year 3,4&5) lead

I have been a governor since 2011. My youngest son has recently left Year 6 (it only seems like yesterday that he was in Reception). The school has undergone significant change over the years and I think we find ourselves in a strong position but it doesn't mean we can't strive to improve further. If you have any suggestions or questions, drop me or one of the other governors a line as we are keen to hear from you.

In my professional career, I work as a Managing Consultant for a large FTSE 250 listed company where I have over 20 years' experience delivering a range of IT and business projects. Unfortunately, this restricts the amount of time I can spend in school but I'm really pleased to be part of it and proactively challenge where I can.

Ashley Hammond

Parent Governor

Phase 4 (Year 6) lead

Jenny Kraft

Co-opted Governor

SEN lead & Equality and Diversity lead

I am a newly appointed governor in 2019. I have worked in education for 19 years in various roles. I have a child who is in Year 1 at Milton Park.

I am passionate about helping schools to support children to thrive and learn. I am looking forward to learning more about the role and working with the team to ensure Milton Park is thriving and progressing.

I have special interests in psychology and special educational needs and have welcomed the orle of SEND governor.

Away from school, I enjoy music, nature and crafts.
