Governors

Welcome to our Governors’ section.

Please find below details of how our Governing body is structured, including the names, categories, responsibilities and terms of appointment for each Governor.

The Governing Body warmly welcomes you to Milton Park Primary School.

What is a School Governor?

The school governors are a team of dedicated volunteers who work with the Headteacher and staff to ensure high standards of education and care.

This is achieved by:

• Setting suitable aims and objectives.
• Agreeing policies, curriculum, targets and priorities.
• Monitoring and reviewing the school's achievements and progress.

What do the School Governors do?
School governors oversee important decisions, such as staffing and school finances. The Governing Body is made up of parents, staff, past and present members of the Local Authority and people from the local community.

On the 1st October 2017 Milton Park Primary converted to academy status and formally became part of the Extend Learning Academies Network (ELAN). Each school within ELAN has a Local Governing Body (LGB). The LGB of Milton Park Primary School aims to support the whole community of the school using their varying skills, strengths and expertise from all walks of life to enrich the work of the governing body and improve the governance of the school.

The LGB of Milton Park Primary undertake the responsibilities delegated to them by the Board of Trustees. These include aspects such as maintaining an overview of the standards and performance achieved in the school, securing a local interest in the school's strategic development and providing support and challenge for the Headteacher.

In all decision making, the governors are committed to ensuring that the best interests of all children in the school are the highest priority.

Co-opted governor

I began my career as a Secondary school teacher. I taught dance and drama and absolutely loved it. After a few years not working looking after our children I went briefly back into teaching and at the same time worked as a Youth Pastor at Locking Castle Church. A year or so later I felt called to ordination in the Church of England and so here I find myself, 8 years later, vicar of St Peter’s Milton and Mead Vale. I love being a vicar and I also love teaching and education in general. So being a governor feels like a great fit for me!

Redvers Turner

Staff Governor

I am a staff governor, appointed in 2020. I have worked in education for 14 years in a variety of different roles, including: one to one support, teaching assistant, higher level teaching assistant and class teacher.  This is my eighth year at Milton Park Primary School and my tenth year as a teacher. I started as a Newly Qualified Teacher in September 2014 and took sabbatical leave to work in the UAE (United Arab Emirates) for two years. I have worked in years 3, 4 and 5 during my time and am currently back in year 3. When I am not at school I enjoy reading and taking my dog for a walk.
