Term 4 / 5 /6 

Pupils returning and curriculum focus .

We are really looking forward to welcoming all our pupils back on 8th March. The next few terms will be a busy time for us all, class teachers have preparing lessons ready to welcome the children back. As always, we are mindful of meeting the needs of individuals, all lessons will focus on identifying any missed learning for pupils and provide opportunity for every pupil to move forward at an appropriate level for them.

Week Beginning

8th March

What will lessons look like in the first week back?

We will primarily be focusing on

  • Establishing routines
  • Reviewing class behaviour charters
  • Focus on 5 pillars of wellbeing
  • Team building activities

Children will have the opportunity to revisit previous leaning on SEESAW, where appropriate.

How will my child be assessed?


It is essential that we swiftly identify gaps in learning for all pupils, this will help us structure any interventions needed and enable us to target support for those pupils who need it. In line with all the ELAN schools we will be conducting baseline assessments for all pupils. These will include

  • Phonic checks
  • Reading, writing , spelling and maths assessments

For children who were previously any intervention programmes baseline assessments will be reviewed

  • NELI
  • talk boost
  •  BRP –

What else will my child be taught ?

Foundation subjects

Class teachers will be delivering lessons which will cover and consolidate missed content and learning in foundation subjects such as history, geography

What if my child has attended school or completed all home learning and is where they need to be, what will their focus be?

Our assessments will help identify where ALL children are and their individual next steps. For those who have no gaps and will not need to ‘catch up ‘ teachers will plan differentiated lessons – providing activities to challenge further.

What if I want to know more about my own child’s gaps or progress ?

As always, if you are concerned about your child’s progress or attainment, or would like further information please contact the class teacher. Parents’ evening will also provide an opportunity to discuss this.

What will the school do to help ‘catch ‘ my child up ?

Assessment data will enable us provide intervention programmes which are tailored to the individual children. These may include

  • Access to an academic maths tutor
  • Better reading partner support
  • ‘Catch up’ Maths intervention
  • Writing interventions
  • Speaking and listening programmes such as NELI, Talk Boost


What else will my child be taught?

Each class will continue to address any key skills and knowledge in each subject, this will follow their yearly curriculum overview. These can be found on the year group pages.


Making the curriculum accessible for all.

Here at Milton Park we value the abilities and achievements of ALL its children, and are committed to providing for each the best possible environment for learning. We are proud of what we are able to offer. We recognise the entitlement of all pupils to a balanced, broadly based curriculum. Our Special Education Needs policy acknowledges the need for teaching that is fully inclusive. The Governing Body ensures that appropriate provision is made for all pupils with SEN.

  • provide a differentiated curriculum appropriate to the individual’s needs and ability
  • ensure the identification of all children requiring SEN provision as early as possible in their school career
  • ensure that parents of children with SEN are kept fully informed of their progress and attainment

We recognise that many children will experience special needs at some time during their school life.  Whilst many factors contribute to the range of difficulties experienced by some children, we believe that much can be done to overcome them by parents, teachers and children working together.
